The insights that data provide are only as good as the quality of data entered. By standardizing definitions and data entry practices, we can ensure the highest quality data -- within organizations, regionally, and nationally. In this session, you’ll:

  • Get a sneak preview at the NEW Data Dictionary that will be released this fall by Shelter Animals Count
  • Explore challenges with animal-level data and what’s needed next
  • Gain a deeper understanding of standard definitions of data fields and terms in the industry
  • Learn to ensure high-quality data entry within your organization

Stephanie Filer

Executive Director

Shelter Animals Count

Stephanie Filer has worked in senior leadership positions at non-profits for nearly 20 years, leading high-performing communications, development, and operations teams. Her advocacy efforts at the state and local level have led to countless changes in animal welfare legislation, including overturning multiple decades-old breed  specific /discriminatory ordinances across Iowa.

After nearly 12 years at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, in August 2021 she joined Shelter Animals Count as Executive Director to further advance animal welfare across the country through data-enabled insights. Her professional and civic achievements have earned her Forty Under 40 recognition and the first annual Stephanie Filer Community Impact Award, among many other awards and honors.

Samantha Hill

Director of Data and Technology, Shelter Animals Count

Samantha Hill joined Shelter Animals Count as the Director of Data and Technology in 2022 where she combines her passion for animals with her education in research and data analysis to understand national trends and community impact. She started her career in higher education administration at Case Western Reserve University where she completed a Masters in Nonprofit Organization and discovered her passion for details, research, data and organizational impact.
